Touring an environmental win for Florida |

Hgh praise coming from Dana Fry, half the Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design team which is designing Miakka Golf Club with help from Bradenton's Paul Azinger, a Major champion on the PGA Tour and former Ryder Cup captain.
Dana, along with partner Jason Straka, led a "walkabout" at the Miakka Golf Club on February 11. Taking shape on 1,100 acres along the Myakka River, with the directive of leaving the land in better shape than when undeveloped, the golf course is an environmental win for Florida:
- 1,500 trees were relocated
- Native vegetation provides an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colors, textures and hights year round
- No water discharge will enter the Myakka River
- Water used on the course is directed into a 40-acres lake and filtration basins
- Stadium and Lazer zoysiagrass, grown next door at Miakka Turf, requires less water, fertilizer and pesticides than other grasses
- Capillary concrete is used on the putting surfaces for optimal drainage
